Dry shampoo has become an absolute necessity to lazy gals everywhere so it figures that we’d want to find some dupes for when our trusty bottle hits empty. It turns out there are lots of good hacks and effective alternatives for greasy hair days that will get you back to your silky best in no time. Here are our 5 fave dry shampoo alternatives to get you started.
Translucent setting powder
Yup, that’s right, the white powder you use to set your makeup can be used to suck up the oils on your head too. It might be a little more gentle but it’s definitely better than nothing and leaves your locks looking a lot fresher. It’s good to use a brush to apply it too, just not the same one you’re using on your face obvs.
Talcum Powder
Your grandma’s favorite! This age old beauty product can be used as a substitute for dry shampoo too but just make sure to use it sparingly. It’s better to work it in bit by bit and not directly onto your part either. It’s better to apply it underneath the layer of hair and then brush it out to make sure you’re not left with any residue.
Nunzio Saviano Dry Shampoo Blotting Sheets
These clever little sheets absorb oil and control frizz on the move in one sweep. Just like lipstick blotting papers you can simply pat away the excess oil from your hairline leaving super refreshed locks. These are perfect to keep in your bag for touch ups after work too, just make sure you remove any excess residue.
Backcombing
This won’t remove the oil but it will help to disguise it. Greasy hair is often limp and flat so adding some volume will make it look way better and be much easier to style. You want to really concentrate on your roots to get lots of lift and texture and spray with hairspray to hold it in place.
Anything in your kitchen cupboard
It’s not glamorous and you definitely don’t want to make a habit of it but you can use cooking ingredients like corn flour or baking powder as a dupe when you’re desperate. You want to go very sparingly with these and apply as little as possible to avoid lots of buildup but they work in exactly the same way as other powders. You can finish by spraying your hairbrush with perfume and brushing through your hair if you want a fresher smell too.
