Choosing hair extensions for short hair
When searching for the perfect set of hair extensions, it’s worth thinking about what end results you’re looking to achieve.
For instance, are you searching for subtle, short extensions for short hair to add a subtle boost of length and volume, or would you like to add serious length to your locks with extensions reaching down your back?
Next, think about how long you want to wear your extensions for. Do you want a temporary lift for a special occasion, such as a party, wedding, or night out? If so, a set of clip-in hair extensions for short hair would be an ideal choice.
If you want to enjoy longer, fuller hair for longer, semi-permanent hair extensions such as tape-ins, nano-tips, and fill-ins may be a route to take, as these extensions last between 8-12 weeks per fitting before re-setting.
For the best extension results, your short hair should be at least 3-4 inches (ear length on average) to make sure that your hair extensions fit securely.
Our tips for blending hair extensions into short hair
Short hair extension method 1: Conceal the Under-layer
After fitting extensions in short hair or very short hair, the section of hair at the nape of the neck is often the most prominent.
To keep the look discreet, begin by sectioning the bottom layer of your hair (across, between the middle of the ears). Then conceal this layer by plaiting, twisting and pinning the hair into a neat bun.
If you’re confident with your hair styling, you could braid this layer to the head. And if your hair is too short to plait, twist the hair and pin it or tie it into a small pony. Try to use as few bands or grips as possible.
Once you’ve achieved this quick style, begin by clipping your first weft to the pinned section.
Short hair extension method 2: Double-up the Wefts
For your hair extensions and short hair to have a perfect blend, we recommend using all the wefts provided in the full set (of clip-ins and semi-permanent hair extensions_. This will help conceal a blunt, short haircut for longer locks you will love..
To fit more wefts around your head, layer or stack them on top of each other. This method removes the bluntness of your style while creating more volume. But we don’t recommend using more than two wefts per layer of natural hair.
Doing this will enable you to fit more extensions onto your head, using fewer layers of hair, for the best extension results on short hair. You can also use this trick to achieve an ombre or mixed-shade style.
If you are layering your wefts, clip them to enough hair to hold the weight comfortably.
Short hair extension method 3: Twisting the Hair
This trick is great if your hair is too short or challenging for our first method, making it perfect for fitting hair extensions on very short hair.
After you’ve applied and styled your extensions, you may find the front pieces of natural hair are still noticeable.
If this is the case, twist any small sections of the hair and secure them at the back of your head, underneath the extensions. One small bobby-pin per section will be enough to hold this style and achieve your perfect look.
Short hair extension method 4: Texturising the hair
A straighter hairstyle can often make blunt ends of short hairstyles and lobs more noticeable when wearing extensions – so, why not try one of our recommended hairstyles for shorter hair?
Add texture to your hair by styling it into waves or curls for a seamless blend – using a curling tong or hair waver to easily style shorter hair into extensions. This helps to achieve a seamless blend between your natural hair and extensions.
To follow this extension styling method for short hair, simply curl your extensions after they have been clipped to your hair to bend the ends of your natural hair into your extensions.

Short hair extension method 5: Blending Extensions into Full Hair
If you have short but thick and full hair, we’d recommend our thickest hair extensions for your lob.
Our Quad Weft extensions give you between 200g-265g of hair to work with – helping you blend them effortlessly with your natural hair for an undetectable look.
This is especially true if you’re looking for short bob extensions to add a boost of length to your locks. Our quad-weft extensions are available in 16” and 20” lengths in a full range of shades, including blacks, reds, browns, blondes, highlights, balayage, and ombre styles.
For those with thinner hair searching for short bob extensions, we also offer a collection of classic clip-ins, seamless clip-ins, and invisible clip-ins to suit your hair.
