Preparing for a festival can be a pretty big task. From planning outfits to finding the perfect party hairstyles and makeup looks, there’s a lot to think about before hitting the fields. With most events taking place in the peak of summertime, you can expect some serious heat, and if you’re in the UK… maybe a little rain too. Long story short, your hair is exposed to a lot during festival season, so have a read of our 5 hair care tips to keep your hair looking Insta-ready all weekend. You’re welcome.

Pre-Festival:

It’s undeniable that with festivals comes grime and dirt - it’s a lifestyle tbh. So, to prepare your tresses, it is important to start with hair that is as fresh as poss. The night before day one, deeply cleanse your locks with a clarifying shampoo before applying a nourishing conditioner to the very ends of your hair. A little hydration is ideal for protecting your mane from harmful UV rays allowing you to dance the weekend away, carefree.

Top tip: After washing, air dry your hair to avoid unnecessary heat damage. Once dry, enjoy lightweight, manageable hair for longer by skipping on the post-wash oils, mousses and sprays.

Choose Hairstyles that Keep Your Hair out of Your Face:

When it’s absolutely sweltering outside, there is nothing worse than having your hair down - IYKYK. Festival-proof your tresses by planning a few hairstyles that will keep your hair away from your face and neck. Whether it’s an embellished french braid or a tousled messy bun, having your hair pinned up protects your locks from sweat and damage, as well as keeping your hair fresher for longer.

To add some extra glam to your hairstyles, clip-in extensions for a bump of volume and length, or, if you’re feeling adventurous, try an XXL braid or Ariana-esque pony!

Skip the Styling Products:

During your tent GRWMs, avoid unnecessary product build-up by holding back on applying heavy styling products to your hair. Using things like hairspray and hair gel can majorly clog up your tresses, leaving you with weighty, straggly hair for the rest of your weekend - not a vibe.

Dry Shampoo:

Tend to third/fourth day hair with a light spritz of dry shampoo. Soaking up excess oils will make your hair appear less greasy, whilst also adding a bump of volume and body - it’s a win-win!

Spray your hair one section at a time to ensure even coverage, and massage thoroughly into the roots and scalp for a fresh finish all over.

Post-Festival:

Picture this: It’s Monday, the festival blues have taken over, your tent is on the brink of collapsing and you’ve woken up with a mop that has the resemblance of Hagrid’s. It’s time to show your hair some love.

Before hopping (or should I say crawling) into the shower, slather your ends with your favourite hair treatment to give your tresses some much-needed hydration. Rinse out using a restorative shampoo and conditioner, we recommend Olaplex No.4 Bond Maintenance.

Leave to air dry to protect your hair from potential heat damage and finish it off with a coat of glossy hair oil to lock in moisture and keep your hair feeling as good as it looks.
