How To Keep Your Hair Healthy This Winter

how-to-keep-your-hair-healthy-winterThe weather is officially changing, Christmas is almost here and with it comes a wave of cold weather that’s going to wreak havoc on your locks. Most of us have already added an extra moisturiser to our skincare routine but it’s important to take the same approach with haircare too. So, to keep your hair looking healthy this winter we’re gonna share with you a few quick hacks to totally upgrade your routine.

Invest in a good hairdryer

We totally understand that not everyone has enough time to let their hair dry naturally and so a hair dryer can be a necessity rather than an option. Winter is the perfect time to upgrade yourself to one that’s a little more hair friendly though. Something like the new Panasonic Nanoe Hairdryer which helps to moisturise your hair and keep it soft and shiny is perfect. You always want to keep your dryer on the lowest or middle setting rather than using the highest heat. This will help your hair to hold on to some moisture to and also prevent any scary heat damage.

Turn on the humidifier

If you don’t have a humidifier already then winter is THE perfect time to pick one up. They can help replace the moisture in your skin and hair that’s lost to cold, dry air during the day. You can also add essential oils to the water to supercharge it’s hair reviving powers. Lavender and rosemary oils are the best for promoting hair growth and smell amazing too.

Mask more

Masks are a great way to nourish your hair and revive dry ends. Picking up something deeply nourishing or oil based would be perfect for the winter months and a great thing to encorporate into your weekly routine. Lookout for anything that targets dry or frizz prone hair and also masks for volume that will help to give your hair a much needed boost.

Use scalp specific products

Your scalp tends to get dry and itchy in the winter and you’re more prone to dandruff too. Using products that are targeted specifically at moisturising your scalp will keep your hair looking healthy and flake free throughout the colder months. For a natural remedy you can use almond oil once a week as a treatment mask. Just work it into your scalp and leave it on for 15 minutes before your normal shampoo and conditioner routine.

Find the right oil

Oils are perfect for replenishing the hair and making it look shiny but you want to find one that works with your hair type and isn’t too heavy. Avocado and jojoba oil are good for repairing damaged hair while rosemary and pomegranate are good for thinning hair but there is literally an oil for every hair problem. If you have dry ends it’s worth running a pea size amount over them every day to prevent any further damage while it’s cold.

Replace the volume

Your hair tends to go flat and dull during the winter and wearing beanie hats really doesn’t help! It’s good to invest in a volumizing mousse or powder to inject some extra fullness. You can also use some dry shampoo to add some extra texture.

Switch your products to a moisturising version

Making the switch from your normal shampoo & conditioner to one that’s more moisturising will make a big difference to your hair health this winter.

Stay on top of split ends

Having regular trims and making sure to keep on top of any split ends will keep your hair looking healthy not only in winter but all year round. Check your ends for any sign of damage regularly and aim to get a cut every 3 months.

Don’t leave the house with wet hair

Turns out it won’t give you a cold but going out with wet hair can still cause a lot of damage. Wet strands can freeze and become more prone to damage and snapping. Pretty scary stuff.
