milk-and-blush-step-by-step

If you’ve been reading our posts for a while then you’ll know how important it is to keep your hair as healthy as possible if you want it to look good. Split ends, dry locks and damage are pretty hard to hide and if your hair is in bad condition it probably won’t hold a style either. This is why it’s super important to have a killer night time hair routine just like you do for your skin to keep it looking its best.

We’ve put together some of our fave hacks that you can use every night or once or twice a week to give your hair a little pamper. Whether you wash your hair in the evening or the morning these steps will save you loads of time and improve your hair health. Sounds dreamy right? Lets go...

If you wash your hair in the evening

We get that not everyone has time to wash and style their hair in the morning so if you prefer to wash it the night before then these next few steps are for you.

Pre Shower Mask

Before you get in the shower apply a nourishing mask on your hair from the mid lengths to ends. This will help to replace moisture lost from styling and is perfect if your hair is prone to getting dry. You don’t have to do this every night but once a week is perfect to keep your hair feeling super healthy.

Shampoo and Conditioner

It’s really important that you pick a shampoo and conditioner that works for your hair type.

So if you have dry, oily or coloured hair for example you need to pick up a formula that will work to give your hair what it needs.

Use a microfiber towel

We all know that towel drying your hair can cause breakage so switching to a microfibre one is really important if you want to keep your hair healthy. Microfibre towels won’t cause friction or pull your hair so they’re a lot more gentle than a regular cotton one. They also help to reduce drying time which is perfect in the evening when you don’t want to spend hours on your hair. We’d recommend picking up the Aquis Hair Towel as it’s made from high performance micro fibres that will gently dry your hair and reduce static.

Blow dry

Giving yourself an at home blow dry is the easiest way to wake up with perfect hair. If you let your hair dry in the microfibre towel first it shouldn’t take long either and will smooth your hair and set it in place for days. We’ve written a post on getting the perfect at home blow dry here if you need some tips.

Overnight Mask

If you prefer to wash your hair in the morning then you can utilise the hours when you’re asleep to nourish it with an overnight mask. This will give it plenty of time to sink in and deeply penetrate your strands so that your hair can really benefit from the ingredients. For a special treat try the Coco & Eve Mask which intensely nourishes your hair to make it softer and smoother. Alternatively Sephora’s Hair Sleeping Mask is way more affordable and comes with a cap so you won’t have to worry about getting product on your pillows.

For everyone

These next few tips are steps you can do every night to ensure that you don’t damage your hair while you’re sleeping. They’ll also ensure you wake up with super gorgeous locks so it’s a no brainer that you need them in your routine.

Detangle

At the end of each day it’s a good shout to brush through your hair, remove tangles and get rid of any hairs that have shed throughout the day. For this we’d use something super gentle and work from the ends up to gently detangle. One of our fave brushes for this is the Tangle Teezer which uses a two-tiered tooth system to gently remove knots and smooth out frizz.

Natural Oil

Using a little oil through the lengths of your hair every night is a great way to keep them nourished and damage free. Natural oils like argan and marula are perfect for this as they really sink in and won’t leave your hair looking greasy. If oil isn’t for you then try out the L'Oreal Inforcer Night Anti Breakage Serum instead which helps to strengthen your hair while preventing tangles and breakage.

Dry Shampoo

Rather than dry shampooing your roots in the morning it’s way better to do it the night before so that it can really soak up the excess oil. This way you’ll avoid those awkward white patches and it means you’ll wake up with super voluminous hair which is always a good thing.

Tie It Up

It’s best to tie your hair up out of the way at night as it’ll help to prevent tangles and breakage if you move around in your sleep. You want to keep it super gentle though and tie it as loosely as possible using a scrunchie or invisibobble as they’re the least damaging. This is also a really great way to style your hair while you’re sleeping too and it takes very little effort. For blow dry style waves in the morning just twist your hair up into a high bun right at the top of your head or a low bun at the nape of your neck. You can also braid your hair for tighter waves by creating two dutch braids on either side of your head. So easy!

Dust if you need to

Every few weeks take a look at your ends and if they’re starting to split just gently dust them off to prevent any further damage. You don’t need to do this all the time but keeping an eye on your split ends is a good shout, especially if you’re trying to grow your hair.
